Booster Club Kicks Off the Year

We will have our First Annual Kickoff Party for the OLL Booster Club on Friday September 28th from 7pm-10pm.  Our event will be held at the North Hills Club.

This will be a members only event, but we want as many new members as possible to join us (we will accept new memberships at the door).  This event is FREE with your current $35 annual membership.

The evening will give us all a chance to get together and meet other Lourdes parents and Booster Club supporters.   With our busy schedules, sometimes we just need to take some time to have some fun.  During the party, we will make some announcements regarding new traditions for our Booster Club.

Your party this year will be hosted and sponsored by the Booster Club Leadership Team.   We look forward to seeing you on September 28th!

Girls’ Volleyball

The OLL girls’  volleyball team is off and running.  The Lady Lions have played five matches losing to St. Mary Magdalene, St, Michael’s, North Raleigh Christian Academy, and St. Thomas Moore.  Led by 8th grade Captains Shannon Powers and Maddie Massarelli, the team has demonstrated phenomenal team sprit and sportsmanship. They have taught cheers and offered support to each team member both on and off the court.  As a result, each match has

been marked with improvement.

Their matches have given the girls lessons in serving.  The JV team comprised of Millie Piggott,

Kimberley Thompson, Joanna Powers, Leah Cox, Claudia Schweighardt, and  Grace

Massarelli  pulled together to run some good plays against NRCA,  St. Mary Magdalene, St. Thomas More and St. Michael’s.  The Varsity team has improved with near wins led by Shannon Powers, Maddie

Massarelli, Katie Dold, Rachel Cox, Ashton Byrne, and Nicole Gooch and supported by seventh graders Mallory Drake, Wynn Saleeby, and Lane Huger.

The past two games against St. Michael’s and St. Thomas More have shown the girls are finally coming together as a team.  The have been running plays, backing each other up, and communicating more. They lost 23-25 to St. Thomas More in a game that truly was volleyball at its best.  The team had several aces when serving and ran exciting plays that kept us all on our seat.   Their future games look promising

Boys’ Soccer

The OLL boys’ soccer team opened their 2007 season with a win against North Raleigh Christian Academy 2-0.  The score does not accurately reflect that the Lions controlled all aspects of the game on both ends of the field.  Andrew King scored the first goal midway through the first half on a great pass from Jacques LeBlanc.  With the second half ticking down, Andrew King delivered a pass right to Nick Williams for the second goal.  In total, OLL had 23 shots on goal to NRCA’s 4.  NRCA had one play where it looked as if a goal was inevitable with Ryan Lawrence drawn out of the goal.  Seeing the hole in the defense, Jacques LeBlanc covered the goal and headed the ball out to save the shutout giving goalie Ryan Lawrence his first shutout in an OLL uniform.  Veteran  defenders Andrew DiLillo, Luke Enzweiler, Nick Despotes, and Sherwood Callaway were

key to the 2-0 victory.

On Wed 8/29, the Lions went to Apex to play the St. Mary Magdalene Monarchs.   At first the teams seemed evenly matched with the score of 0-0 throughout most of first half.    As the game worn on, the Lions wore out as their 2 subs came on the field while the Monarchs sent in fresh legs every few minutes with their 16 subs.  The Lions, though tired, played with a lot of heart.  In all, OLL took 10 shots on goal while SMM took 11.  Theirs just happen to go in!  The end result of 4-0 was disappointing.  Congratulations to new team members Jeffrey Crawford, Paxton Massarelli, Phillip Cooley, and Noah Dickerson on a great effort.

Three games in three days was the thought when the OLL Lions took on St. Michael’s on their home field

on Thursday.  Once again the Lions hung with their opponents for most of the first half with the score of 1-0 in favor of St. Michael’s at the break. St. Michael’s defense proved to be too good for the Lions as the final score was 3-1.  The lone goal was scored by Nick Williams as the clock ran down.   Midfielders Jeffrey Crawford, Jacques Leblanc, Phillip Cooley, Paxton Massarelli, Noah Dickerson, and Nick Despotes had a tough job containing their much larger opponents but never backed down on a 50-50 ball.  Andrew Mihok, Andrew King, and Nick Williams were pressured all game and had some great shots that unfortunately went wide of the goal.  Once again, Ryan Lawrence in the goal held off many shots with the help of defenders Patrick Domville, Luke Enzweiler, Andrew DiLillo, and Sherwood Callaway.    The Lions are now 1-2 with a long weekend to rest.
