General School Information

CLASS SIZE

Class sizes vary depending on enrollment for the particular year.  Kindergarten, first and second grade classes have one full-time teacher and one full-time teacher assistant.  Third and fourth grade classes have one teacher per class and a shared part-time teacher assistant.

CLASS STRUCTURE

Grades one through five are self-contained classes.  The students stay with the same teacher throughout the day with the exception of specialized classes.  Grades six through eight are departmentalized.  The students at all grade levels have special teachers for Spanish, art, music, computer, and physical education.  The students have the opportunity weekly to go to the school library.  Algebra is offered to the eighth grade students who qualify for this advanced math program.  Remedial help is available in reading and in math.

FACULTY AND SCHOOL

All teachers are certified and the school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.   Our receptionist and our full-time tutor are religious sisters, Sisters of Notre Dame from Chardon, Ohio.  The Sisters of Notre Dame also staff Cardinal Gibbons High School, the Catholic high school in Raleigh.

SCHOOL HOURS

School doors open at 7:30 a.m.  Students may go to their classrooms at 8:00 a.m.  Classes begin at 8:10 a.m.  Dismissal is at 2:45 p.m.  School dismisses at 11:45 on most First Fridays of the month.  This early dismissal permits the teachers to have staff meetings.  There is a special children's liturgy for students in grades K-8 offered on the First Friday of each month.  Students in grades 1-8 attend mass every Friday.

HOME AND SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

Communication between home and school is encouraged.  Report cards are distributed four times during the year.  Progress reports are issued mid way between report cards for those students who are experiencing difficulty.  Parents are asked to become actively involved with their child's educational process.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE

In accordance with the provisions of Canon Law and the policies of the Diocese of Raleigh, the Advisory Committee assists, advises and provides support to the principal who in turn is accountable to the pastor in the operation of the school.
